Serve to Preserve Florida Summit on Global Climate Change
Governor Crist hosted the first Serve to Preserve Florida Summit on Global Climate Change in July 2007, bringing together policy makers, academics, scientists, environmentalists and the business community to discuss the impact of climate change in Florida. During the summit, the Governor signed a groundbreaking set of Executive Orders representing the State's commitment to addressing global climate change, a promise to reduce greenhouse gases, increase energy efficiency and pursue more renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind technologies, as well as alternative energy, such as ethanol and hydrogen. One of the executive orders signed by Governor Crist in 2007 created the Governor's Action Team on Energy and Climate Change, charged with creating a Florida Climate Change Action Plan that will include strategies to reduce emissions, including recommendations for proposed legislation for consideration by the Florida Legislature. Completed in two phases, the final report was submitted by the Action Team in October 2008. Click here for more information on the Action Team, and to read the Phase I & II reports.
Building on the foundation for Florida's energy future that began at the 2007 summit, the 2008 Serve to Preserve Florida Summit on Global Climate Change was held June 25 - 26, 2008. The 2008 summit focused on the need to pursue alternative fuels and other energy technologies as well as economic opportunities available by investing in "green" technologies. In addition, Governor Crist signed the 2008 Energy and Economic Development Legislation at the summit's opening breakfast. Click here for more information on the 2008 summit.
